About Us

Employment Opportunities

ArborTrek Canopy Adventures is always looking for enthusiastic, hard-working, skilled individuals. While many of our position require individuals proficient in technical skills, previous experience working in the out-of-doors is not required. Strong communication skills and a passion for working with people is required.

We are currently hiring for Summer 2017 positions.  Interviews will be scheduled and conducted between mid-March and the end of May.

Job Qualifications

Job applicants seeking work as zip line canopy tour and treetop adventure guides must be responsible and highly organized.  Working on the canopy tour or treetop adventure course involves working at great heights and in an environment that can be largely unpredictable.  Successful candidates must be committed to taking responsibility for their safety and that of our guests at all times.  This means following operating procedures and role-modeling proper technique.  All candidates must undergo intensive training and pass a written and practical exam to gain full employment.  Training and coaching is included.

Training & Skill Development

Some positions may require prior experience working in the out-of-doors or specific certifications and training.  Paid training is available for most positions. Ongoing training and skill development is at the core of our business. Applicants should be prepared to participate in an ongoing training and skill development program. Open communication and a willingness to give and receive feedback on performance are critical to the process in all positions of the organization.

Season & Work Schedule

Most positions inside the organization are seasonal. While tour operations will be conducted year round, the summer provides the most opportunities for work. Staff will be offered work in the Fall, Winter, and Spring based on qualifications, performance, and seniority.  Staff who come to the position with additional skills in construction, marketing, journalism, accounting, and small business management are likely to be provided additional work when business is slow.

Tours are offered seven days a week with departures scheduled throughout the day during the summer with reduced availablity from Fall to Spring. While tours are scheduled by reservation, schedules often are not complete until a day or several days in advance. As such, staff must be prepared to work irregular hours and make themselves available throughout the week.  During Peak Season, employees can expect to work long hours.  During the Off Peak Season when work is more sporadic, employees can expect to receive work as it becomes available.

Income & Wages

VERMONT - Entry level positions generally pay between $10.00 and $12.50 per hour plus tips.  It has been our experience that tips generally average $3.00 to $5.50 additional per hour.
TENNESSEE - Entry level positions in Tennessee generally pay between $8.50 and $10.00 per hour plus tips.  Tips generally average between $0.75 and $1.00 additional per hour.
ArborTrek does not guarentee tips.

Administrative and office position pay is set by the position and based on the experience of the applicant.  All full-time employees will receive access to our basic benefits package which includes friends and family discounts and access to pro-form purchasing from select vendors.  Additional benefits may apply based on arrangements with local partners. These benefits are site specific and not guarenteed.

Bonuses are sometimes issued.  Incentive and bonus programs are offered during the Peak Season.  To be eligible, staff must remain available throughout the entirety of the Peak Season.

Staff Policies

Our business requires that staff are alert and functioning at their best.  As a result, some ArborTrek locations participate in random drug testing.  ArborTrek reserves the right to terminate any employee without notice for positive findings or a breach of safety procedure.   A more thorough employee manual will be provided to each employee upon hire. Employees are expected to adhere to all policies inside the manual.  Failure to meet policies and employee guidelines is reason for immediate dismissal.   ArborTrek reserves the right to change, suspend, or cancel without notice, all or any part of our policies, procedures, and benefits at any time as needed.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

ArborTrek Canopy Adventures is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

No officer of the company will discriminate against a current employee or an applicant for employment for reasons of race, creed, color, religion, sex, national origin, ancestry, sexual preference, age, or any physical or mental disability.  No officer of the company will discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of their status as a veteran of the armed services.

Transportation

All staff are expected to have their own transportation to and from the site.   Failure to show proof of reliable transportation and timeliness to work will result in suspension without pay or dismissal.

Summer amenities include eight pools and four waterslides, hiking trails, tennis, golf driving range, skate park, and climbing wall. Winter activities include skiing and snowboarding on three mountains offering 1000 acres of terrain. Smugglers' has received local and national recognition for its environmental stewardship.

Smugglers' Notch Resort's award-winning programming, family atmosphere, focus on environmental stewardship, and location in the Green Mountains made it an ideal location for a canopy tour. We selected Smugglers' Notch as a partner because the Resort was the type of place we wanted to take our families to and the type of place we knew our clients would enjoy year after year.

About ArborTrek Canopy Adventures

ArborTrek is a company built of talented people who are passionate about exploring the natural world, empowering people, and providing individuals, small groups, families, and corporations the opportunity to share an unforgettable adventure together.

Additionally, ArborTrek provides the opportunity for established tour operators, resorts, and land owners with wooded property near tourist destinations or near densely populated areas, the opportunity to enter into the emerging eco-adventure park market with the management experience and financial backing necessary to be successful.

HOW WE BEGAN

Inspired by emerging opportunities in the eco-adventure market and frustrated by the limited role of a design/build vendor, Michael Smith launched ArborTrek Canopy Adventures' flagship operation at Smugglers' Notch Resort in November 2010 with the goal of being the premier provider of zip line canopy tours and aerial adventure parks in the U.S. and Canada.  A second park was opened in 2014 at Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee.

While ArborTrek is a relatively new company, the experience and systems behind ArborTrek are rooted in the success and growth of many of the top tours in the U.S. and Canada.  ArborTrek has uniquely positioned itself to capitalize on the growing eco-adventure trend by providing the oppportunity for established tour operators, resorts, public parks and land owners with wooded property to enter into the market with the financing, design, installation, training, and management experience necessary to be successful.  ArborTrek is currently seeking locations across the United States and Canada.

OUR MISSION

Be the premier provider of zip line canopy tours and adventure parks in the United States and Canada.

BUSINESS FOCUS

Design, develop, and deliver novel, eco-adventure programs that foster an appreciation for the environment, create lasting memories, and help individuals learn more about and connect with themselves and the people and world around them.

Our locations will serve to be a place where clients can always come to escape the negative stresses of life and rejuvenate their energies, enjoy the camaraderie of their family and friends, and appreciate the great outdoors. To this end, we strive to create experiences where we are the visitors to the area and where our impacts are minimized.  Simply put, our goal is the educate, entertain, and inspire people through unforgettable adventures.
